Network Event Sender/Receiver

Postby specter333 » Wed Jan 02, 2008 1:46 pm

Hello again, I think this is just another one of those things I need basic instructions for.

I'm trying to figure out the Network Event Sender/Receiver. If I'm understanding this correctly, the sending computer simply sends an event named whatever, in my test it's drive door. The receiving computer should see an event named drive door in the event log. Then I drag the event to the macro I want to trigger. Is this correct?

For my test I'm using the event drive door to open the cd drive door with the EG system action. When ever I send the event from the first computer I get an error "Network Sender Failed" and no events are logged on the receiver.

My LAN connection is separate from my internet connection so I unplugged from the internet and shut down the firewall with no difference. What is it that I'm overlooking?

Thanks for you help.

Make sure you have your ports open on software firewalls.

Use a password.

And try IPs. Name resolving is not that dependable in a Windows Network without a DNS server.
Can you ping the remote computer.

Ok, thanks for you help guys but it occurred to me while I was typing up this long explanation of my system and settings that I needed to put the IP of the receiving computer in the settings on the sender. That solved the problem. As I said in my other post, I'm not very computer literate.

CollinR, I see your from Oklahoma. Where about? I'm from OKC.

Thanks to both of you for your help.
