Use non-MCE remote codes with MCE Plugin?

Postby michaeljc70 » Wed Nov 16, 2011 9:18 pm

I am using the MCE Win7 plugin and have a couple events working fine. I have the MCE IR receiver/blaster that shows as eHome Transceiver in the device manager. I would like to use non-MCE remote codes to trigger some events since most of the buttons on the MCE remote I need for controlling WMC. Is there any way to easily do this? I don't see a plugin for this specifically (I see USB-UIRT).

I actually don't need to work off any of the MCE buttons if I can use alternative IR codes if that matters.

I guess I have this sort of working. If I use certain remotes, the code shows as MCERemote.Unknown.xxxxxxxx. I can assign those to macros. However, some remotes show different (but similar) codes every time I press the same button on the remote. An example is (I made this up, but it is close to what I saw) pressing one button 3 times:

Press 1: 100+85+56+120+65
Press 2: 100+85+56+8+120+65
Press 3: 100+85+56+65

They don't look the the Hex codes I see when it does work properly.

you might get different codes from the same button for a couple different reasons.

First reasons is that the signal is no strong enough, you are not aiming properly, batteries are low, or there is other IR interference which is interfering with the signal (like from an LCD TV).

The second reason is that the code from the remote you are pressing is actually intended to alternate between different codes.

If it is the second situation and it is happening in a predictable way, maybe you should just add all the possible code events for that button to the macro you want to trigger. i.e. Drag them all over to the macro you want to trigger.

I want to do this as well. I want to send a non-MCE IR command from my universal remote (don't really care what the IR command is as long as it isn't a functional MCE command) that I can have EG emulate the keyboard letter 'a' being pressed.

I think I've gotten EG working and it shows normal MCE IR commands in the log window when I press them on my remote. How can I find another IR code that I can use that the MCE IR receiver will recognize in EG that I can link to a keypress?

EG does this kind of thing easily. In the lower left corner, un-check "Log only assigned and activated events". Point your remote at the MCE IR transceiver and press the button that you desire to trigger your action. In the left pain, you should see an entry that says MceRemote.Unknown. followed by a bunch of letters and numbers. Assuming you've already created your macro for your keypress, drag the MceRemote.Unknown. entry from the left pane to the top of your macro.
