Since EG 0.4.1.r1544: Errors in XBMC Plugin

Postby ZappoB » Wed Jan 04, 2012 12:30 pm

Hello Community,

since the update to EG 0.4.1.r1544 I get the following error-messages:

Code: Select all
    19:08:44   Can't find action: XBMC.BigSkipBackward()
    19:08:44   Can't find action: XBMC.BigSkipForward()
    19:08:44   Can't find action: XBMC.SmallSkipBackward()
    19:08:44   Can't find action: XBMC.SmallSkipForward()
    19:08:44   Can't find action: XBMC.TakeScreenShot()
    19:08:44   Can't find action: XBMC.MyVideos()
    19:08:44   Can't find action: XBMC.MyMusic()
    19:08:44   Can't find action: XBMC.MyPictures()
    19:08:44   Can't find action: XBMC.Favorites()
    19:08:44   Can't find action: XBMC.SystemInfo()

These functions are of course not available in the actions and responding also error-messages. the r1540 was working flawless.

I couldn't find anything about an update of the XBMC plugins, or if there are new functions which replace the named ones.

Is it possible to replace only the plugin of the r1544 with that from r1540? If yes, what files or directories have to be replaced?

Many thanks for your help.

I'm surprised r1540 worked for you as the XBMC plugin you have been using was replaced with my XBMC2 plugin in r1486. And it unfortunately have different actions.

To get the old XBMC plugin back you need the files in (EventGhost install dir)\Plugins\XBMC of an old installation.

If you are using a remote I think using the new XBMC2 plugin is much better. (But I'm biased) But of course you will need to change your EventGhost config.

r1540 definitely works, because I now installed it over the r1544 and it runs again as usual without any error.

Where can I learn something about the new XBMC2 plugin and why (I sense the answer) isn't it compatible to the first version?

To get the old XBMC plugin back you need the files in (EventGhost install dir)\Plugins\XBMC of an old installation.

That (curiously enough) doesn't work.

Maybe this is a problem with the GUID.
Find posts about GUIDs, see Support for XBMC2 plugin (formerly XBMCRepeat) (November 2011).

What kind of problem do you mean?

The not working version 1544?
The question, why 1540 still works?
Or why it not works to copy the XBMC plugin from 1540 to 1544?

I really do not understand why a new incompatible plugin must replace an exiting one. Why can't it be additional with a new name?

I haven't had a chance to look into this yet.

There was three links to my XBMC2 plugins support thread in my post.

Sir, from your post I feel a touch of aggression.
I understand that you're angry.
But please note that we do everything here for free, and even in our own time.

Just accidentally happened, the GUID in the 1544 version is different than in previous versions. In the opening post of topic Support for XBMC2 plugin (formerly XBMCRepeat) is a link to download the latest version of the plugin. It is to be used until the new version EventGhost will be released.

There was a mixup with the guid (unique number to identify a plugin) in my XBMC2 plugin, read more here.

The not working version 1544?
The question, why 1540 still works?

I'm not sure it is related but don't know for sure.

Well the new plugin has a new name XBMC2 the old one was called XBMC, after a discussion in this thread it was decided to add my plugin (then called XBMCRepeat) to EventGhost and remove the old XBMC plugin, as my plugin has all features plus more and is more or less still developed. Unfortunately for users of the old XBMC I needed to use different names for the actions to be able to add in all functionality I wanted to add to the plugin, as a result moving to my plugin needs a reconfiguration.

@ZappoB Attach your EventGhost config to a message, it should help me figure out whats going on.

Dear Pako,

I'm really sorry that my post was misunderstood as an attack to anywhom and I will apologize for that! English is not my mother tongue and I write in short sentence to make my mind as clear as possible, but without any offense!

Your answer was not clear to me and so I gave you the three options which I was thinking about, to make it easier for you to follow my thoughts - again without any disdainful meaning!

I greatly appreciate your work and the work of the community and I'm thankful, that the development of EventGhost is kept on.

The last question was meant serious curiously, why a functioning plugin is replaced by an incompatible (as I understood) new one, instead of adding it. There might be reasons that I don't know or understand, but I like to know...

Thanks for helping and no hard feelings!

Oh so I guess I finally understood what the problem is.
ZappoB uses the old XBMC plugin, not new XBMC2.
The old XBMC plugin has the same GUID as the new XBMC2 (but only in version 1544, as has been said - by mistake).
That is why the old XBMC is not working after installing 1544.
No two plugins may have the same GUID.
If you do not want to use the new plugin XBMC2, simply delete XBMCRepeat folder and everything should be fine.

Ok, I think I'm also coming to a clue what happened: the new XBMC2 plugin was accidentally with a wrong GUID integrated in the r1544 and caused this trouble - it was not meant to replace the old XBMC plugin?! Is this right?

So I stay on the r1540 version till a new corrected version comes out. And if I have enough time I will look at the advantages of the XBMC2 plugin, but till now the old one works good for me.
